Event description

Description

Many writers use a notebook (or a digital file) as a vital tool to capture images and bits of overheard conversation, to brainstorm, to freewrite, or test a new technique. But how do we then mine this collection of random gems to spark imagination and creativity?

In this generative workshop, Janet Fretter shares approaches to invigorate, transform, or begin a notebook practice. She’ll help you identify and extract notebook nuggets that can inspire new projects or rekindle a work in progress. You’ll leave with your “pen on the scent” of your next great piece of writing!

Bring an existing or new notebook and your usual writing supplies.

About the Instructor: Janet Fretter

Janet Fretter is a writer, editor, and story geek. She writes fiction and narrative non-fiction, and is a 2013 graduate of SFU’s Writer’s Studio (TWS). Janet served as managing editor for emerge, the annual anthology produced by students of TWS, from 2014-2017. She is past co-host of the TWS Reading Series and an enthusiastic supporter of the local literary scene. Janet offers freelance editorial services for emerging and established writers, and she is — at last — carving out more time for her own writing.
