February 24 Salon - Rethinking the Neighbourhood
We are happy to announce a second Tzavta in February on Friday 24th in collaboration with ACAD (Alberta College of Art and Design). We will be hosting international artist Jeanne van Heeswijk, a Dutch visual artist known for facilitating social interaction in public spaces. Her projects are characterized by a strong social involvement and often direct personal commitment. Since 1993 Jeanne van Heeswijk has been working on socially committed art projects that take place in and aim to transform public spaces. She sees herself as a mediator, an intermediary between a situation, a space, a neighbourhood and the people they connect. She herself has coined the term “urban curating” for describing her interventions.
Jeanne van Heeswijk will also give a public at ACAD on the 23rd. Her Tzavta salon at the bakery will focus on her seminal 1993 seminal work that showed in the Liverpool Biannial and some of more recent works. The talk will be moderated by Lorenzo Fusi, Visiting Academic Curator of the Illingsworth Kerr Gallery.
