Event Details

What’s it all about?
The humble ukulele has undergone something of a renaissance in the last few years, with many professional musicians (from Jake Shimabukuro to Amanda Palmer to Eddie Vedder) exploring the instrument’s versatility, and many more amateur musicians discovering the joy of learning an accessible, portable instrument.
Ticket options:
2 ticket options: $25 = bring your own uke, $65 = a new ukulele will be provided for you to use and keep. This class will offer an introduction to ukulele playing, suitable for complete beginners and those who know just a little.
What will we cover?
Tuning, basic chord shapes, strumming patterns, and arrangement. By the end of the session you’ll have played your way through 2-3 songs.
Who will be teaching?
Toronto Institute for the Enjoyment of Music (TIFEM) is a music school located in downtown Toronto. TIFEM offers Private Music Lessons, Private Group Music Lessons, and Group Drop-In Music Classes for a variety of instruments. Music lessons are geared towards developing the student’s enjoyment of music, this being the most effective way to improve musical skill and achieve personal growth.

Gladstone Hotel

Built in 1889, the Gladstone Hotel  is Toronto’s oldest continually operating hotel and has been evolving as a local cultural hub since 2003 with a vision to revolutionize a hospitality model that operates at the intersection of arts, sustainability and social change.  From karaoke to weddings, book launches to burlesque, the hotel is a meeting place for local creatives and travellers, making it possible to explore and interact with the living culture of artist life in Toronto. In 2005 we invited local artists to transform our recently restored 19th century hotel rooms into 37 unique artist designed hotel rooms. Our robust art story continues still in our gallery spaces on all four floors with thought-provoking art exhibitions 365 days per year.  The Gladstone Hotel is an inviting, inclusive hospitality beacon that allows artists, neighbours, travellers and revellers to connect, collaborate, celebrate, dine, explore, participate and sing their hearts out!
