UNB Saint John Math Placement Test
Fri, 5 May 2017, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM ADT
The purpose of the Math Placement Test (MPT) is to ensure that students have a realistic chance at success in first year calculus.
The MPT is required if you're planning on taking Math 1003 Calculus I or Math 1001 Calculus for Life Science.
This includes any student who will be entering a program in the Faculy of Sciences, Applied Sciences, and Engineering.
Based on your test scores, you will be directed to enroll in calculus (MATH 1001 or MATH 1003) or to enroll in the pre-calculus course (MATH 1863). The pre-calculus course provides you with the mathematical background and analytical skills required for the study of Calculus. This places you in a much stronger position for success in Calculus. Indeed, since the implementation of the MPT, success rates in our first year calculus courses have shown significant improvement.
If you are intending to complete a degree in the Sciences, it is recommended you write the MPT prior to the (S.O.A.R.) Spring Orientation, Advising, and Registration event on May 27th. The results of the test provide us with information that will help you build your schedule and select the correct math course at registration time.
If you cannot attend, or live outside of the greater Saint John area, subsequent sessions for the MPT will be hosted. See the Math Placement Test website for details.
