Unexpected Voices Speech Competition Canada
World Speech Day (WSD) takes place on March 16, 2023, and this Speech Competition is about capturing students’ thoughts and innovative ideas across Canada. The theme for speeches for WSD 2023 is Shared Ideas for a Better World. At a time when there seem to be many difficulties and dark clouds, it’s particularly worthwhile to share positive and inspiring ideas for a better world. This Competition gives students a chance to articulate their thoughts, ideas, and concerns about the topics, and present our leaders in Canada with new ways of thinking and promote taking action. In particular, we are looking for students to present new ideas on one of the following United Nation Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs):
- No Poverty
- Zero Hunger
- Quality Education
- Gender Equality
- Clean Water and Sanitation
- Reduced Inequality
- Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
ROUND 1 – WRITTEN SPEECH SUBMISSION
You write a short speech on one of the SDGs listed above. For the 7-8 and 9-10 age categories, the speech can be no more than 300 words. For the 11-15 age categories, the speech can be a maximum of 500 words.
Your parent or teacher then submits your speech by the deadline of February 5, 2023.
ROUND 2 & 3 – SEMI-FINALS , FINALS AND AWARD CERAMONY
Twenty students from each age category will be invited to deliver their speeches before a panel of judges at the Aga Khan Museum in North York, Ontario, on April 1, 2023. First, second and third-place speeches for each age category will be ranked. All participants, semi-finalists and Finalists who attend the event will be presented with certificates, medals and prizes during the Awards Ceremony.
