Summary
At Women’s College Hospital, we offer a specialized outpatient Trauma Therapy Program for adults who have experienced childhood abuse. We often hear from patients and providers that it can be challenging to access treatment for psychological trauma. In response, we conducted a needs assessment with community partners to inform the development of a virtual asynchronous training program for healthcare providers. The training program teaches community providers how to deliver a manualized 8-week once weekly trauma-focused psychoeducation and skills psychotherapy group called ’Resourced & Resilient’. Our aim is to increase capacity in the healthcare system for trauma-focused treatment, to increase comfort, knowledge and attitudes about delivering a trauma group, and to evaluate the virtual training program and make iterative improvements. We are now entering the next phase of our study, where six community partners will begin offering the foundational trauma group in their communities in early 2022.
