Unlocking the U.S. Market: Streamlining Organic Imports
Overview
This is a COTA-members only event
Moving organic products into the United States has never been more complex, or more critical for Canadian brands aiming to maintain market or looking to scale. The NOP's Strengthened Organic Enforcement (SOE), the removal of the de minimus rule, tighter scrutiny at ports, and rising documentation requirements mean that even experienced exporters are seeing new risks, delays, and costs. Box 7 Imports was created to solve exactly these problems.
In this session, Joe Dickson and John Foster — Co-CEOs of Box 7 Imports and longtime leaders in the global organic community — will walk through how Canadian exporters can streamline U.S. organic importation, protect certification status, and avoid the most common compliance pitfalls under the USDA National Organic Program. They’ll explain how Box 7’s Certified Importer model removes uncertainty at the border by taking direct responsibility for organic compliance, completing mandatory NOP Import Certificates, managing supply-chain documentation, and ensuring every shipment meets U.S. regulatory requirements.
Participants will come away with a clear understanding of the U.S. organic import landscape, what’s changed under SOE, and how working with a certified importer can reduce friction, risk, and costs for Canadian brands entering the U.S. market.
