Event description

Description

This workshop is co-hosted by the League of Intrapreneurs Canada and the School for Social Entrepreneurs Ontario. Check out all SSE Ontario learning opportunities here.

In this workshop, we take a deep dive into a key "unlearning" skill: seeing past incremental innovation and creating options for transformational innovation that will help us build a green, and socially equitable world. You will learn a structured process that will help you identify totally novel possibilities and ways to think about social, economic, and environmental change that are exciting and full of potential.

About our Experts

Chryssa Koulis, Managing Director, School for Social Entrepreneurs Ontario

Chryssa got her start in the non-profit sector at a very young age – at age eight she became a fundraiser for the Heart & Stroke Foundation through their Jump Rope for Heart program. As an adult she has worked in non-profits like The Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto, the Artists’ Health Centre Foundation and the MS Society. She even found her way back to the Heart & Stroke Foundation but this time they paid her for her fundraising efforts.

Despite her long history working in the non-profit sector, Chryssa’s true calling was more entrepreneurial. Her sales skills and business savvy served her well in completing her MBA from York University’s Schulich School of Business. She also graduated in the School for Social Entrepreneurs Ontario’s first cohort and launched a social enterprise called Sidekicks. Chryssa volunteers on the Board of the North York Community House, does a lot of home renovating (not by choice) and is completely devoted to her tiny dog.

Marjorie Brans, Co-Managing Director, School for Social Entrepreneurs Ontario

Over the last twenty years, Marjorie Brans has obsessively wondered: “Can free market efficiency be reconciled with deep care for the planet and all of its creatures?” Seeking an elusive answer, she has hunted for clues on five continents in multinational corporations, venture capital funds, tiny social businesses, and charities including Oxfam America and Harvard Law School. To recruit and train fellow explorers for the quest, she (co)founded the School for Social Entrepreneurs Ontario, League of Intrapreneurs Canada, CLARION (Community-Led Action to Resilience in our Neighbourhoods), and PhotoVoice (US). Despite their tired feet, Marjorie and her co-travelers suspect the answer is “yes”.
