Event Details

FuseSocial invites you to "Unwrap the Research" with a Keynote from Brian Emmett, Chief Economist at Imagine Canada.

Proudly Supported By Suncor Energy Foundation and Edmonton Community Foundation

FuseSocial has spent the last year conducting and gathering research on how our regional social profit sector is recovering from the 2016 wildfire.  Research is important to everyone no matter the sector - public, business or social.  Research gives us a means to understand various issues and then make solid data-driven decisions.  Research is critical for innovation and improving services.  It helps us to test the validity and reliability of our claims, and it gives us the means to find, gauge, and seize opportunities.

Come and hear the researchers present the data:

Dr. Marc Langlois of Twelve Canada will present "The Blueprint for Resilience Report, Disaster Response Lessons from Community Organizations".  The Blueprint report is based on research conducted since March 2017 by Twelve Canada to determine what lessons about the wildfire that staff and volunteers of community organizations in Wood Buffalo consider most important to share with others.

Cathy Goulet, President of Killick Leadership Group Ltd. will present "The Economic Impact of the Social Sector".  While the positive community wellness impacts of social profits is understood, often the economic impact of the sector is not considered.  The Value Proposition project gathered economic data through surveys and secondary research and developed a model for assessing economic impact.  This presentation will include the process and challenges of gathering financial data in the sector, the economic impact assessment model, the findings of impact, and recommendations for other organizations considering a similar project.

FuseSocial's Chief Social Entrepreneur will present on the findings of the 4th in our Wildfire Impact Survey Series conducted by Malatest.  How are organizations recovering?  What are some challenges presenting themselves almost two years later?

Keynote:  A Challenging Future; Economics, Demographics, Philanthropy and the Role of the Social Sector to Change that Future.

Brian Emmett will offer some insight on how we can change the world - and the future of philanthropy - by changing the way people think about the sector. What is the link between the future of philanthropy and what Brian sees as challenging economic and demographic trends confronting the sector - and indeed all of Canada.

We hope you join us for continental breakfast, networking, lunch, and an opportunity for Q&A surrounding this exciting work.
