In this online workshop, my friend Lauren will teach the kids that failing is an important part of creating, learning and growing. Through engaging activities, the kids will get to practice not letting the fear of failing hold them back. The goal is to ensure that we don't let perfectionism stop us from achieving our dreams.

I asked Lauren to write a little introduction so that you can see all the awesome things she does and get a bit of a better feel for the amazing workshop! Here is what Lauren sent to me:

“I am a former Arts Express Ottawa instructor running drama, musical theatre and hip hop workshops after graduating from the University of Ottawa with a degree in Theatre Studies. I am now a researcher at Shopify where I study small business owners to help guide product and content development that helps entrepreneurs succeed.

I created the Find the Fun in Failure workshop for Shopify’s Dev Degree interns (a partnership program between Shopify and Carleton University where computer science undergrads learn on the job at Shopify!)

I am also cofounder of Toasted Theatre Company – a local theatre company that tells contemporary feminist stories.

As well as VP of the board of Period Packs, an Ottawa based NGO dedicated to raising awareness about and eradicating period poverty in Canada.

My accomplishments have been born out of pursing my many interests and pressing on through many setbacks which is why I think it’s so important to teach young people the power of resilience and the mindset of just starting and learning as you go!”

You will notice that we have listed two ticket prices for this event – $10 or $20 per family. I use this two ticket format when I am running a workshop with a guest. When I invite a guest to a workshop, I want to make sure that they are fairly compensated, so I split the revenue from a shared workshop 50/50. But I also want to be sensitive to our participants needs right now. With this two ticket format, families can self-select the ticket price that works best for them in this current time. We know that a lot of people are experiencing financial hardship right now, and we want to be empathetic, compassionate and accommodating to that. But we also know that there are others who are less affected financially right now and are looking for ways to help our local artists, organizations, community builders and businesses. We thought that this two ticket price system was a fair way to balance all this. Please select either price, without any guilt or fear of judgement.
