Note: please bring your lunch and the art supplies listed below.


This Urban Sketching Workshop for Beginners will focus on learning how to see and draw basic perspective, how to put people in the sketch and basic composition.

It will include a short talk with examples to explain the theory behind seeing perspective and then an opportunity for participants to put it into practice.

We will cover:
One-Point Perspective -

How to draw a row of buildings, people, trees, fence posts stretching off into the distance.


Two-Point Perspective -

How to draw the corner of a building or a room so it doesn’t look wonky.


Three-Point Perspective -

How to draw from the “worm’s eye-view”.

Materials that you are Required to Bring:
--a pencil (mechanical pencils are great).
--an eraser
--a pad of paper no larger than 9x12" or similar (at least 90 pounds)

-a stool to sit on

Optional:

--a fine liner (Micron, Staedler even a Sharpie fine liner)

--a set of basic watercolor paints (pans not tubes)

--paint brush and jar for water

--paper towel or Kleenex to clean brushes

If weather permits we will sketch outdoors. Please dress appropriately.


About the Instructor: Brenda Murray has a BA and an MA in English and Fine Arts from the University of Waterloo. She is the founder of Urban Sketchers Waterloo Region and served on the board of Urban Sketchers international as Communications Director for 4 years. She is also the founder of the Art District Gallery in Kitchener. Brenda has taught sketching and perspective workshops at the Button Factory, the Homer Watson Gallery and privately.
