Urban Worker Skillshare: Vancouver
Sat, 8 April 2017, 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM PDT
DAYTIME SKILLSHARE | Doors @ 9:30AM
Calling all freelancers, contract workers and solopreneurs!
Join 100 other urban workers to share best practices and to learn from one another. You will connect with experts to get your most burning questions answered, share your hard earned lessons and build community. Together we’ll skill up while we envision how to make work and life more secure in this new economy
We will have lawyers, accountants and other experts available on hand to lead sessions and consult one-on-one on topics like taxes, setting rates, writing contracts, invoicing, getting paid on time, and what to do when that doesn’t happen.
We'll also talk about the big picture issues we're facing - like access to affordable housing, benefits, childcare and income security and what we can do to make change.
Participants will leave with a package that includes contract templates, resources useful to freelancers and swag from our partners.
After #AllTheWork, we party.
The party is a separately ticketed event. Read on for more details and get your tickets here!
We would like to acknowledge that these events are being hosted on the ancestral, traditional and unceded Aboriginal territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, and in particular, the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations on whose territory we work, live and play.
ON SITE CHILD CARE
We are proud to be able to offer on site child care for the duration of the daytime event. Please email info(at)urbanworker.ca if you require child care and indicate so in the registration form.
The earlier we have this information the better so we can make arrangements with our care providers.
TICKET PRICING & ACCESSIBILITY
The true cost of our event is $100 per person but accesibility is our top priority so we are offering a sliding scale: $20, $50 or Pay What You Can.
If you love what we're up to and can afford investing in the movement for secure livelihhods in the new economy, we appreciate you selecting the Supporter Ticket level ($100) or making a donation through the Pay What You Can ticket.
If you are interested in volunteering at this event, please email Jenn McRae, jenniferangelamcrae(at)gmail.com
Volunteers will receive a free ticket to the after party and are invited to stay for the whole Skillshare.
AFTERPARTY | NOT A PARTY ELECTION PARTY by GEN WHY MEDIA | 7pm - late
Working precariously in the new economy is a political issue. Good thing BC's got an election happening in May! On April 11th the writ drops and the partisan campaigns kick off. Join us for a party that celebrates all the incredible election work happening outside the political party system to make livelihoods in BC more secure. Speakers + local talent + music + drinks + dancing + all your favourite people.
This is a separately ticketed event. Get your tickets here.
Follow us on Facebook @urbanworkerca for announcements of our amazing speakers and guests.
