About this event
The 3 Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition is an internationally recognized research communication competition developed by the University of Queensland in 2008. The 3MT® is a unique competition that challenges thesis-based graduate students to present their research and its significance in only three minutes, with only one PowerPoint slide, in language appropriate to a general audience. Due to its success, competitions are now held annually around the world.
The 3MT® competition challenges graduate students (Master and Ph.D.) to present their research and its significance in three minutes using a single and static slide. The goal of the competition is not an exercise in trivializing or simplifying research but challenges students to consolidate their ideas and research discoveries so they can be presented concisely to a non-specialist audience. 3MT celebrates the discoveries made by research students and encourages their skill in communicating the importance of research to the broader community.
The 3MT® is designed to share and celebrate the outstanding research of our dedicated students and to provide students the opportunity to showcase the importance of their work. This celebration of research offers an invaluable opportunity for graduate students to compose and present their research in a way that engages the academic community and refines the quality of their work.
EGCC 3 Minute Thesis (E3MT) Competition
All E3MT participants will be competing for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and people's choice prizes at the local level valued at $1000, $750, $500, $250, respectively. All participants will also enter a draw with a chance of winning an additional prize. This is an event for the six departments within the College of Engineering, which definitely will prepare students for the GSA and the regional 3MT® competitions.
This year E3MT Competition will be held on February 25th, 2021 virtually on Webex.
