About this Event

In recognition of Black History Month, the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Office invites the UTSC community to participate in a group reading of Policing Black Lives: State Violence in Canada from Slavery to the Present by Robyn Maynard.

"Delving behind Canada’s veneer of multiculturalism and tolerance, Robyn Maynard provides readers with the first comprehensive account of nearly four hundred years of state-sanctioned surveillance, criminalization and punishment of Black lives in Canada."

During the month of February registered participants will read the book at their own pace and are encouraged to share their learning and reflections using the hashtag #UTSCreadsBHM. On Wednesday, February 26th from 12PM-2PM in AC227, participants are invited to gather and discuss the themes of the book, and share strategies for continued learning and action in their everyday lives.

A limited number of free copies of the book are available for attendees on a first come, first served basis. Participants are welcome to secure the book/audiobook at their convenience and attend the event.

Light refreshments will be served.

Once registered, if you are no longer able to attend please email natalie.elisha@utoronto.ca
