Demystify UX - Get informed, trained and certified!

Understanding the fundamentals of User Experience is a critical first step, regardless of your background or objective. The UX-PM Certification is an international User Experience (UX) training program certified by UXalliance, for digital product, marketing and project managers.


There are 3 levels
:

  1. Adopting UX
  2. Executing UX
  3. and Leading UX.

Each level builds to expand knowledge of UX and how to integrate and manage it to achieve an awesome user experience in your projects. Each level is offered as a 2-day course, is certified by the UXalliance and is internationally recognized.

UX-PM level 1
, is for digital product owners, business analysts, marketing and project managers, anyone leading omnichannel projects, who want to understand the fundamentals of UX and adopt UX methodologies in their projects, as well as encourage a user-centered design culture in their organisations.

Objectives of level 1: Adopting UX
  • Understand UX concepts, methods, misconceptions and challenges.
  • Understand the benefits of a UX approach.
  • Be familiar with UX tools and methods.
  • Learn methods to integrate user experience into your digital Agile and waterfall projects.
  • Become a UX ambassador in your organization.

Who is this certification for?
  • IT digital managers including product owners, business analysts, account managers, product managers, project managers, marketing managers... It's for those who want to better understand UX and/or how to integrate UX activities into their projects. No prerequisite apart from a curiosity for the subject (careful it might become addictive).

Course details
Starting with a clear breakdown of what user experience is and is not, this course aims to fully demystify UX. Topics covered include:
  • Principles and benefits of integrating UX activities into product development.
  • Common challenges of integrating UX activities into a development process and the cost of UX.
  • Difference between usability and user experience and how they are related. UX as a service ecosystem and across multiple channels.
  • Perspectives on some cognitive mechanisms related to decision making, UX as an emotional response that influences users’ behaviour.
  • UX methodology and exploration of key activities for developing a strategy and a vision based on collaboration and empathy (Personas & Experience Map). Overview of methods involving users and what kind of valuable insights can be collected. Roll out of key UX design at all phases of the development cycle (from UX strategy to interaction design).
  • UX as a communication tool and how to promote the value UX within an organization.
  • Immersion and practical application: review of various case studies, discussion and role-playing to sharpen your UX and usability skills. Combination of theory and problem-solving exercises.

Certification exam
There is a certification exam at the end of the 2nd day of training. The exam is comprised of an online test.

Duration and Types of Payment
  • 2 full-day sessions with a one-hour lunch break (9:00-16:30).
  • Pay using Paypal or by invoice. By invoice, we will send you the details within 5 business days. Invoice must be paid in full within 4 business days prior to event start date. If invoice is not paid per these terms, registration will be subject to cancelation.

Who's teaching
  • Joelle Stemp founded the UX agency Yu Centrik in 2003. With great perseverance and adaptability, Yu Centrik was steered through many technological and societal changes to reach 2018 with great relevance. Joelle is a pioneer in the adoption of user experience and service design in Canada. With a background in communications and a talent for design, Joelle began her career as a designer specialized in user interface design and usability. She has spent the last 25 years promoting usability and user experience, and has played a key role in guiding corporate change toward a user-centric design culture in small and large organizations.
    She has been involved in many, many projects related to user experience and convergent medias (Web, digital TV, mobile, IVR, OOH), as well as complex digital solutions.
    Joelle designed the first Campus Wide Information System (CWIS) on the Internet for the University of Montreal in 1990 and was part of the largest User Interface Group at CRIM Research Center (Montreal Computing Research Center), and fell in love with Human Centered approach. Being as one of the first Certified HFI’s Usability Analyst in Canada, she continues to learn about human behaviour, Design Thinking, Lego Serious methodology, and is still as passionate as ever to design engaging products and services that customers will love using.
    Joelle is very involved in teaching the UX-PM Certification program developed in collaboration with her training partners at UXalliance, a global network of User Experience Experts. Yu Centrik is the sole Canadian partner of UXalliance and the UX-PM Certification program.
    Joelle is fully bilingual French-English.

  • Daniel Engelberg is a cross-disciplinary problem solver, strategist and bridge builder. He brings creative insight and strategic thinking to the human side of solutions in complex and multi-disciplinary projects and innovation efforts. He addresses project goals ranging from design solutions to corporate change. He draws his methodology from design thinking, user experience design, creative problem solving, product management and organizational change.
    Daniel holds a M.Sc. in human-computer interaction from the University of Michigan. For his B.Sc. at McGill University in Montreal, he studied experimental psychology and neuropsychology. With over 20 years of experience, Daniel has designed interactive applications in a broad range of domains including medicine, health and safety, voice user interfaces, e- commerce, telecommunications, banking, insurance, ERP and transportation.
    Daniel has played a key role in guiding corporate change toward a user-centric design culture in small and large organizations. Daniel teaches UX courses to students from industry, gives presentations at conferences and local events, and has collaborated with researchers on publications in the UX field.
    He has been a guest lecturer in UX design at McGill University and École Polytechnique de Montréal. Daniel is fully bilingual English-French

  • Marie-Eve Belanger is a cross-disciplinary design researcher and service designer. She helps organisations make sense of complexity, recognize emerging patterns and generate insights through a human-centred research and design practice. She uses the tools and methods of qualitative research, user interface design, user experience and service design to deliver on project and company goals.
    Marie-Eve holds a Master of Information from the University of Toronto where her work was primarily focused on human-centered information systems for complex knowledge environments. She also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design from Concordia University. With over 15 years of experience, Marie-Eve has helped a wide variety of organisations become more human-centred and design-focused by creating user-centric digital, experiential and service-based solutions.
    Marie-Eve is heavily involved in the Toronto user experience and service design communities. She is a contract lecturer at Ryerson University, teaching interaction design to New Media students. She is also the co-founder and director of Service Design Canada, a not-for-profit that promotes, builds, and connects the service design community in Canada. Marie-Eve is fully bilingual French-English.

Cancellation and copyright
  • Yu Centrik reserves the right to cancel a course up to 5 business days prior to the scheduled course date if the minimum class size of 5 participants has not been attained.
  • Yu Centrik is not responsible for travel, accommodation, or any other expenses incurred as a result of a cancellation.
  • If a cancellation occurs more than 4 weeks prior to the scheduled course date, an 85% refund will be provided. If a cancellation occurs 3 to 4 weeks prior to the scheduled course date, a 50% refund will be provided. No refunds are provided when cancellation occurs within 1 week of the scheduled course date.
  • All UXalliance course materials are copyrighted and owned exclusively by UXalliance. The Canadian UX-PM certification is currently available in: Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City & Toronto. Outside of Canada, the certification is offered in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Finland, France, India, Italy, Mexico, Poland, United-States, South Africa, and Switzerland, with more countries coming.
