Description

Our neighbourhood received a small grant for Valleycliffe’s Biggest Bike Party. #NSGSquamish

Registration opens June 12th, registration closes August 11th, 2019. The dinner can host 66 couples maximum.

Hint: This Bike Party is a dinner party, it is a variation on a progressive dinner also known in the UK as Safari Dinner. A “couple” is any two people, one person must have a residence in Valleycliffe. Valleycliffe includes Valleycliffe, Raven’s Plateau, Hospital Hill and Crumpit Woods. Couples must register for the Bike Party. Each registered couple will host 1 course and travel together by bike for two other courses. Two other couples will arrive at your door for the course you are hosting. The idea is to have people moving from house to house for each course with groups being mixed up after each course so that they get to meet different people from the neighbourhood. Over the evening each couple will eat with six other couples.

How it works: Two weeks before the event the couple will receive a package with three envelopes. One envelope will tell the couple which course they will be hosting. The other two envelopes will give the address of their two other courses. It will be encouraged to wait until September 14 to open the two envelopes containing addresses. Example: Two weeks before the event. "Couple X" receives 3 envelopes in the mail. 1 tells them they are hosting a main. On September 14th they open their envelope marked appetizer at 5:00 PM, it has the address of where they must be at 5:30 PM. As they are biking to that address they will see others biking, when they arrive at the address it will be a surprise to see who they are eating with, they may or may not know the other couples from the neighbourhood. At 6:15 PM the two other couples open their envelopes to find out where they will be eating their main course. For "Couple X", they know they are hosting a main course so they return home to serve their "go to" meal, nothing fancy. Now they are biking in a group of six but will be going to different addresses. "Couple X" host the main, they meet two new couples. At 7PM all 3 couples open their envelopes to find out the address where they will be eating dessert. Again all 3 couples start out as a group biking together seeing other groups of 6, until they break as they are going to different addresses. At 7:45 PM "Couple X" have decided to go to the after party where everyone has the option to meet up.

Lets get to know our neighbours, Valleycliffe is an amazing neighbourhood filled with new and old residents. This is not about serving fancy food it's about meeting new people in the neighbourhood, it is about recognizing more faces and new friendships. Each course will have a time limit, this will add to the enjoyment, as couples are biking from one course to the next they will see other couples taking part in the Bike Party. There will be an option to meet everyone taking part at the end of the evening at an after party, details to follow closer to the date. 66 couples means 132 amazing people from the neighbourhood!

When Registering you must give a phone number that can be reached by text message.

Please save the Sept 14th date, we recognize emergencies happen but you must notify us if you are no longer able to take part.

New this year, we are looking for 6 couples to volunteer to be a "wild card" house. A "Wild Card" house will not find out the course they are serving until a few days before the event or the day of the event. It is a "Wild Card" because if we receive no cancellations you will be the "extra" couple. You could receive 3 envelopes with only addresses on September 14th or you could find out you are serving the main course....You will be notified ahead of time if you are a "Wild Card" house.

Frequently asked questions:

When is Valleycliffe’s Biggest Bike Party? September 14, it starts at 5:30PM sharp. Save the date registration opens June 12th.

Do we need to bike? We strongly encourage everyone to bike, it is part of the fun, seeing everyone travel from house to house.

Can we take part if we don’t have bikes? Absolutely, bet there is someone who would lend out their bikes.

I have small children, can they be home? People are encouraged to team up with their friends and neighbours for babysitting. We have tried to make this event early evening so babysitters are able to take kids to the park during the course you are hosting.

I have food allergies and/ or a specific diet? You may wish to request to serve the main entree to make sure you can fill your tummy (we will do our best to accommodate this) or you may wish to travel with a brown bag.

I don’t live in Valleycliffe and want to take part? Find a friend who does, we would love to meet you too.
