Event description

Description

The Vancouver Lean Construction Institute - Community of Practice (CoP) is a forum to openly share ideas, to discover, and then practice a “better way”. It is not a platform to market services; CoP events provide a deeper dive into lean methods, lessons learned, and practical tools through presentations, discussions, and tours provided by practitioners.

EVENT: Lean Deep Dive by Kinetic Construction

Skills Matric: Training is a fundamental component of Lean organizations. Knowing who to train on what and by who and when is always a challenge and if not done correctly can lead to the wrong thing being trained to the wrong people by the wrong people wasting time and effort. A Lean training matrix organizes this and gives you not only a snap shot on the skills health of the department/company but a focus on what you need to train the most.

Safety Kaizen: a great Safety program is or should be on the top of every contractors essentials. If you want to be established as a COR company, the focus oddly enough is on your paperwork. In order to meet the criteria, the volume of paperwork can be excessive and very time consuming. A lean kaizen was performed on our process and found waste in the process while delivering a new SOP resulting in significant savings in time.

C.I.T. (Continuous Improvement through Technology) Continuous Improvement is a baseline in Lean and sometimes that involves the use of technology. Researching, choosing, and implementing technology can be a daunting task and often leads to overruns of time and costs and sometimes results are not achieved according to expectations. Tech implementation represents change in an organization which in itself can present challenges of acceptance which is why such change needs to be managed will. In the same way great planning of a project results in better execution, implementing technology requires the same if not greater planning. Lean methodology provides a framework of implementing such change.
