4:00-5:30PM - WORKSHOPS *Limited workshop tickets, first come first serve!*

Workshop #1: Pollinators & Beneficial Insects - Join Nikoo, from Society Promoting Enviornmental Conservation (SPEC), to discuss the various beneficial insects and pollinators you can expect to see in your school garden, plants that will draw in more to your garden, and activities to engage your students in learning about them. This workshop will include a tour of the new honeybee hives situated on City-owned land at the Britannia school garden, led by teacher Ashley MacLeod.

Workshop #2: Rescued Pizzas - Did you know that 40% of the food grown globally goes straight into the waste bin? We will be reclaiming local, organic, seasonal produce destined for the bin, and make everyone's favourite dish with them. Come join Chef Selma from Fare Kitchen Literacy, and Rosalind Sadowski from Fresh Roots, at this very special pizza making (and eating!) workshop, and learn about food waste reduction.

Workshop #3: Salve-making - Lori Snyder, a descendant of the T’suu tina (Sarcee), Nakota (Assiboine), Cree, Nipissing & Anishinaabe (Ojibwa) people, is an Indigenous Herbalist. In this Spring Celebration workshop, Lori will bring forth her First Nations perspective and knowledge of wild, edible and medical plants to demonstrate how to make beeswax healing salves with plants are grow abundantly around us.

5:00-6:30PM - WORLD CAFE DISCUSSIONS & INFORMAL NETWORKING

Join facilitated discussions on a variety of Farm to School themes (eg. salad bars, school garden maintenance, Indigenous foodscapes, healthy school lunch programs and more!), or engage in F2S crafts at this world cafe style session. Mingle with other Farm to School network members, admire hand-made lanterns supplied by Roots on the Roof, browse our resource tables, and adopt some free native plants courtesy of Environmental Youth Alliance's Native Plant Nursery Program!

Note: please request permission from principals and VSB Grounds department before planting free native plants on VSB school grounds.

6:30-7:30PM - MEAL

Featuring local, fresh foods that meet healthy school food guidelines. Taste a "rescued pizza", sample a school salad bar, and enjoy a meal catered by Chau Veggie Express!

7:30-8:00PM - AWARDS CEREMONY

Join us for our first annual pollinator awards, to celebrate and recognize school teams and programs that do outstanding school food and garden work in our community! Learn more and nominate a school team here!
