Description

Vermonters know firsthand that the risks to their businesses from natural and man-made disasters can be devastating. We’ve seen the effects from Storms Irene and Sandy, along with multiple winter storms.

But many small businesses lack the capital, the resources, and the staff to withstand the direct and contingent impact to their businesses – from serious weather-related disasters, power outages, cyber attacks….to everyday disruptions caused by service interruptions, a widespread flu epidemic, or the failure of a key supplier.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) stands forefront in its efforts to help businesses become more resilient. FEMA is presenting a FREE, hands-on small business continuity workshop in Vermont – exclusively for Vermont small business owners – on Thursday, September 10 from 9 AM to 2 PM (registration starts at 8:30) at Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center. The workshop is supported by the Vermont Dvision of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, the Department of Housing and Community Development, the Vermont Small Business Development Center, the Regional Development Corporations of Vermont, and the Vermont Association of Planning and Development Agencies.

This is your invitation to attend the small business recovery workshop, to help you prepare for the kinds of business disruptions that Vermonters have suffered in recent years. No one can prevent those incidents, but we can have a plan to minimize the impact, to restore company operations more readily, and recover the business, its customers, and its cash flow!

Taking time off from your business is difficult, so we have planned a practical, hands-on workshop designed to help you write a simple “business continuity plan” specifically for your company. Experts from FEMA, Vermont Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Department of Housing and Community Development, Vermont Small Business Development Center, Regional Development Corporations of Vermont, and Vermont Association of Planning and Development Agencies will be on hand to personally help you write your plan.

We’ll work from 9 AM until 2 PM and provide a FREE boxed lunch and drinks sponsored by FTI Consulting Inc. We’ll show you what a good business continuity plan looks like, and help you write yours. The workshop is for every kind of Vermont small business that wants to be prepared for the next emergency situation – florists, restaurants, ad agencies, law firms, services companies, construction companies, tradespeople, dry cleaners, retail stores, manufacturers, engineering companies, doctors’ and dentists’ offices, and every other kind of business. Bring a charged electronic device (laptop, iPad, etc.) to edit on site.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to buy the right kind of insurance for your risks.
  • What a business continuity plan looks like and how to write yours.
  • How you can assist your employees to help them be prepared and get back to work after an emergency.
  • Who you can call or visit online for local, state and federal assistance after an incident.

What You’ll Leave With

  • A business continuity plan for your company.
  • Information about the plan and how to use it before and during disruptions.
  • A list of local, state and federal resources to help you during and after major incidents.
  • A certificate of attendance from FEMA.
  • The confidence that your company can re-open and get back to business faster, next time a crisis occurs.

Don’t be caught short the next time your business is threatened!

Join FEMA, the Vermont Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, the Department of Housing and Community Development, the Vermont Small Business Development Center, the Regional Development Corporations of Vermont, and the Vermont Association of Planning and Development Agencies on Thursday September 10 to create a business continuity plan for your own business…..so you can STAY in business when disasters happen!

Registration ends Friday, September 4th.
