This informal Court Orientation Class will familiarize victims and witnesses with court procedures, court personnel and their roles, and offer ways to cope with the fears and concerns that many people experience. The duration of the class is approximately 1.5 hours.

Event Details

The Edmonton Police Service Victim Services Unit offers a Court Preparation Class which will assist victims / witnesses in preparing for an upcoming trial.

The Cout Preparation Class is held ONCE A MONTH on the third Wednesday of each month starting at 6:30pm.  The duration of the class is approximately 2 hours.  Class seating is limited, a waitlist is available.  The location is the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law Building (Moot Courtroom, 2nd Floor), corner of 111 Street and 89 Avenue.

The Court Preparation Class will familiarize victims / witnesses with court procedures, court personnel and their roles, and discuss fears and concerns.  As well, the class will also offer victims / witnesses an opportunity to observe or participate in a Mock Trial.  The purpose of the Mock Trial is to assist victims / witnesses to feel more comfortable while attending court.

Parking is available in the lot immediately tot he north of the building.  Please DO NOT purchase a ticket at the dispenser.  A parking pass will be provided when you check-in for class, which you will then place in your vehicle on your rear view mirror.

The Edmonton Police Service’s Victim Services Unit (VSU) was established on July 23, 1979, and since then has been committed to improving the overall service it provides to the public and enhancing the safety of the community.

The vision of the Victim Services Unit is to become a nationally-recognized model of best practice within the police community, through trauma-informed and client-centered response and services to reduce future victimization and contribute to Edmonton becoming the safest major city in Canada.

The mission of the VSU is to provide timely intervention, prevention and supports to individuals, families and all our communities affected by crime, trauma and tragic events.
