Event Details

Video Editing 101, a Maker Party Intro, is a four day long day camp experience like that enables youth 10 to 17 years old to learn how to use online, free resources for video editing. By using already existing videos on YouTube youth will be introduced to digital skills and web literacy already available to them by completing interesting video editing projects.

The goal is to introduce the youth to resources available online and at the local library empowering them to express themselves and to explore web makers while generating discussion such as:

    • How does the media you chose reflect your memory theme?
    • What kind of data did you use to tell your story in Popcorn Maker?
    • How can data be used to improve your community?
    • What does it mean when we say Open Web or Open Data?
    • Why is it important that civic data be available for everyone?

The program will run from 10 AM to 2 PM starting on August 25th and ending on August 28th. The event will run at the Toronto Reference Library - Digital Innovation Hub located at 789 Yonge Street.

The day camp schedule for the week is as follows:

Day 1. A tour of the library's Digital Innovation Hub and a Welcome to Camp hour - choosing your videos for the project

Become familiar with what the library has to offer as resources and get a tour of the Reference Library's Digital Zone. This is also a great opportunity to get your own library card so check out this link to find out what you need to bring with you.

Day 2. Intro to Popcorn Maker

Day 3. Video Editing Day

Day 4. Finalize your project

This project is a collaborative project lead by hEr VOLUTION, People and Code and Toronto Public Library utilizing Webmaker tools inspired by Maker Party

The best part is that the project is Free AND participants will be introduced to digital skills and resources which are free to use by anyone, anywhere at any time after the project ends.
