Description

Join us for a conversation on the intricacies and dangers of HIV criminal law.

For 10 minutes, Dr. Barry Adam (bio below) casually discusses how the criminalization of HIV has created inequitable life circumstances for people living with HIV in Canada. A lawyer (TBA) will also present for 10 minutes on the technicalities of HIV criminal law in Canada. This is followed by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and engage in general conversation. No academic experience needed!

This is a FREE event with food and drinks. However, space is LIMITED so attendees must register for their free ticket on eventbrite.

When/Where? On Wednesday January 29th, 2020 from 6:00 to 7:30PM at the Tranzac Club, Toronto, ON, M5S 2M7 (a few minutes away from Spadina station).

People living with HIV who attend are eligible to receive a 25$ stipend for their participation (must email beforehand).TTC tickets are also available upon request. Direct inquiries to james.tavares@mail.utoronto.ca

This is intended to be an informal event and we aim to make it a space everyone can feel comfortable in, regardless of your age, race, gender, sexuality, disability or HIV status!

Presenter:
Barry D Adam is Distinguished University Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of Windsor. In 2007, he received the Simon-Gagnon Award for a distinguished career in the study of sexualities, presented by the Sociology of Sexualities Section of the American Sociological Association, in 2012 the Community Partners Award of the Ontario AIDS Network, in 2013 the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, and in 2017 the Anselm Strauss award from the U.S. National Council on Family Relations for an article published in the Journal of Marriage and the Family.
