Music Friends is pleased to introduce violinist Melody Yuan, a homegrown rising star currently studying with a full scholarship at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.

Melody’s young solo career has already included top finishes at several international competitions and festivals, as well as solo appearances with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

She will be joined by acclaimed collaborative pianist Scott Meek, an alumnus of Indiana University and one of the most respected musicians in the Vancouver music circle, to present a diverse selection of solo, chamber, and concerto works from Bach, Beethoven, Prokofiev, and Waxman.

Melody Yuan (www.melodyyuan.com) won the first prize at the Yuri Yankelevitch International Violin Competition 2009 in Omsk, Russia at the age of eleven, 3rd prize in the Canadian Music Competition at the age of 10, the Gabora Prize for the best performance at the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in 2012, 2013, and 2014.

Melody made her first debut with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in February 2012 with Maestro Bramwell Tovey at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver, Canada.


Scott Meek (www.scottmeekpiano.com), top prizewinner of several national and international competitions, has performed as soloist with the Toronto, Edmonton, and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestras, and has performed solo recitals for the University of British Columbia's Noon Hour Recital Series and the Women's Musical Club of Winnipeg. Additionally, he has performed in many series in western Canada, including Capilano University Cap Classics, Qualicum Beach Music on Sunday, West Vancouver Community Arts Council, and Valley CrossWay. In Winnipeg, he performs regularly with violinist Oleg Pokhanovski in his series Oleg and Friends. Internationally, he has performed with the Oberlin Orchestra and the Indiana University ad hoc Orchestra, and has won bronze medals at the Corpus Christi International Competition and at the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, Ohio
