Event description

Description

Join Olympic figure skating medalist Meagan Duhamel (and former NHL player Georges Laraques) for an exclusive, limited attendance meet and greet at Ottawa Veg Fest on June 2, 2018. Meet and greet runs from 12:15 pm - 1:00 pm. Enjoy conversation over refreshments, provided by Juicehead, Fauxmagerie Zengarry, and Baccanalle (Capital Fare Cafe)!

Then, enjoy priority seating (in the front 3 rows) at Meagan's keynote address (1:15 pm - 2:15 pm), during which she'll talk about her Olympic experience, being a vegan athlete, and her work to dismantle the dog meat trade.

ALL proceeds from these ticket sales will support ANIMAL JUSTICE. Animal Justice is Canada's only animal law non-profit, leading the legal fight for animals in Canada. Its lawyers work to pass strong new animal protection legislation, push for the prosecution of animal abusers, and fight for animals in court.

A special thank you to the National Capital Vegetarian Association for its generous sponsorship of this appearance.

About Meagan Duhamel:

Meagan Duhamel is a Canadian 2018 Olympic gold and bronze medalist, in the figure skating team and pairs events respectively. Meaghan is also a long time vegan, who demonstrates that it’s possible to not only survive – but also thrive – as a high performance elite athlete eating only plant based vegan foods.

Meaghan rescued her dog Moo-tae - a miniature dachshund mix - from the Korean dog meat trade. He now lives with her in Montreal, and she works with Humane Society International to end the dog meat trade. She adopted a second dog, Theo, from an Ottawa area SPCA.

With her partner Eric Radford, she’s also a two-time world champion, two time Four Continents champion, and seven-time Canadian National Champion. During the individual pairs free skate at the 2018 Olympics, Duhamel and Radford became the first team to execute a clean quadruple throw jump at the Olympics.
