Event Information
About this Event
How are sponsored refugees accessing mental health services during the COVID-19 pandemic?
What are the challenges navigating mental health supports as a newcomer, sponsor or settlement service provider?
What services are available in Kingston to support newcomers with their mental health?
Please join us for our follow-up Virtual Community Conversation Monday November 30th 2020 at 2pm to discuss our requested next topic: mental health. If you are, have been or want to be a Private Refugee Sponsor, please join us to discuss barriers and learning opportunities so that we can strengthen collaboration with the health sector. We want to hear about your experiences navigating the mental health options and supports especially during the COVID19 pandemic, what worked and ways we can collaborate better.
At this virtual event, we will hear from your experiences as well as those from our panel:
- Tabitha MacInnis, Registered Psychotherapist and Mental Health Counsellor at Maltby Centre
- Sarosh Khalid-Khan, MD, Diplomate American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians of Canada
- Current sponsors
- Private Sponsored Refugees
- Settlement Workers at Immigrant Services Kingston and Area
Together we will discuss:
- Mental Health Options and Supports for Refugees in Kingston
- Explore ways to reduce the barriers for newcomers
- Provide space to engage in intentional dialogue between private refugee sponsored, settlement workers and professionals who provide services for newcomers
