Virtual Dumpling Making for Beginners - Wontons
Event Information
About this Event
Toronto Common with The Daily Dumpling Wonton Co want to teach you how to make wontons, the easy going cousin of the dumpling world, at home.
While there are a few classic styles of wontons, the wrapping of a wonton is the most versatile and easiest to learn for a beginner course because there's also not really a wrong way to wrap a wonton.
This delicious Asian snack or meal can be easily frozen and kept for a quick meal any time of day. And wrapping them is often an activity enjoyed at home with family, especially for special occasions.
The Kit includes:
- 2 classic pork fillings (pork and mustard greens, and pork, shrimp, and chive)
- 2 sauces (chili oil, and ginger soy sauce with rice vinegar)
- square wonton wrappers
- 3 different size dumpling moulds
- $20 gift card for The Daily Dumpling Co.
* enough to make about 40 wontons, can be frozen.
Plus an 1.5hr class on:
- 3 folding techniques without moulds plus how to use moulds
- cooking wontons from fresh and frozen
- 2 serving options (wonton soup, wonton in sauce)
Kits are available for delivery by ShipNoble, Toronto’s own e-commerce fulfilment and delivery service, or picked up at either of the Daily Dumpling Wonton Co.'s two locations.
- OSSINGTON - 792 College St, Toronto
- ANNEX - 750 Spadina Ave, Toronto
* during regular business hours, available 3 days before the event.
** while Toronto Common does our best to reduce single use plastic packaging, we do make exceptions for meat and a few other perishable items where it helps to ensure food safety and quality.

Toronto Common founder, Alice Tu, comes from a long line of restauranteurs. Her parents owned a Chinese and Japanese restaurant in Brampton for over 18 years, her grandparents owned a hotel with restaurant in Taichung, her great aunt owned a famous dumpling shop in Taipei, her other great aunt ran a Taiwanese restaurant, and 3 of her uncles and 2 of her aunts all owned restaurants as well.
When her family gets together, there is always food involved. It's no wonder she started a food tasting company.
She has lived on 3 continents, cooking in new kitchens with limited tools, substituting ingredients and innovating. While she has never considered herself a chef, she is an avid home cook and loves sharing cooking techniques, recipes, and new ingredients with friends and family.
Knowing many people are entering the kitchen more these days, she wanted to share her home cooking tips for those not looking to become a chef, but looking for easy, at home cooking inspiration that doesn't require a lot of extra investment.
