About this event
In this presentation, our nature mentor Dana (a biologist and master's student working to protect female rattlesnakes across BC) will discuss the nine snake species found in BC and what makes them special. She will also share what a day in the field looks like for a snake biologist and why it is important we study them! Get ready for an interactive presentation filled with videos and photos of snakes and other desert-dwelling creatures!!
Disclaimer: There will be a lot of photos and videos of snakes throughout the presentation - this is not for the faint of heart!
Learn more about the presenter:
Dana is a biologist pursuing her Master of Science at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia. In 2017, with the support of Osoyoos Indian Band and Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre, Dana began working on the first study on pregnant female rattlesnakes in Western Canada. To date, she and her colleagues have successfully tracked the movements of twenty-five pregnant female rattlesnakes and found 18 birthing sites. This research will provide critical information for future management decisions and the conservation of this threatened species.
Note: Zoom Meeting invitation will be sent to all registered attendees one hour in advance of the session.
