About this event
2023 VIRTUAL Introductory Beekeeping Course
There will be 4 modules, each with a live Q&A session. Participants will be expected to review the videos for each module ahead of a pre-scheduled live, online, 1-hour Question and Answer period, via Zoom Meetings.
During this live Q&A session, participants are free to clarify and discuss any information from the assigned videos. We recommend that participants watch the videos for each module as close to the Q&A session as possible, and/or take notes on what they would like to discuss. Questions regarding topics of later modules should be reserved for the appropriate Q&A periods.
The course will consist of a combination of lectures and demonstrations presented by Apiculture Professor Dr. Ernesto Guzman, Staff Apiarist Paul Kelly, and other members of the HBRC team, as well as a selection of videos from the HBRC's YouTube Channel. Topics that will be covered in the course include basic bee biology, getting started in beekeeping, equipment, site selection, colony inspections, seasonal hive management, extracting and processing honey, disease and pest control, and beekeeping regulations. In addition, a video recording of the Q&A sessions will be available to participants for a period of time following the course.
We look forward to this course every year and are so excited to be able to offer it once again.
