Join discussions that focus on building skills and networks for jobs and roles in the energy sector.

About this event

For this virtual networking meet-up, hosted by the Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE) Calgary Chapter, we'll be learning from Megan Harju and Ahsan Upal on advancing the future of electric transportation. After the featured presentation, we will also have some (virtual) casual networking time to reconnect and meet fresh faces with other women and allies in the sector from across Canada.

This event consists of two parts:

1. Presentations,

and

2. Interactive, which includes:

  • Q&A with our guest speaker, and
  • virtual networking through small conversation groups.

This virtual event will take place through Zoom. For joining on Zoom at the time of the event, attendees can either log in to Eventbrite to be directed to the Zoom event or can access it by following instructions that will be emailed to registered attendees ahead of time.

For this reason, it is important that you receive a confirmation email from Eventbrite shortly after completing registration. In case you do not receive a confirmation email, check first that Eventbrite emails are not being filtered into your spam/junk box and then, if needed, contact info@womeninrenewableenergy.ca to resolve further.

Ahsan has 20 years of experience in engineering and projects leadership roles with an electrical transformer manufacturer, major energy utilities and consulting firms managing teams to execute major infrastructure projects in power, pipelines, telecom and Hydrogen.

Ahsan worked with AltaLink managing transmission projects, with Enbridge leading development and execution of Canadian pipeline expansion projects and then consulted with the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) on competitive transmission before joining Burns & McDonnell in 2015. Ahsan is a professional electrical engineer and has served IEEE Canada in many national leadership roles, most recently as chair of Industry. Ahsan has also served on boards at The Alex Community Health, Industrial Power Consumers Association of Alberta (IPCAA) and on private schools in Canada.

As an engineering and business development professional, she provides strategic direction for utilities, transit agencies and commercial fleets on their journey to electrification.

Megan has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Oklahoma. She has three years of experience in pro bono management consulting for nonprofits. Her hope is to someday see transportation electrification transform communities through increased equity, reliability and air quality.
