Nikibasika Update
2017 was the 13th TriAdventure -- and over those thirteen years, this amazing community has raised almost $1.4 million to support African children, first through the Stephen Lewis Foundation, then since 2007, for Nikibasika. Because of this profound effort, we have collectively enabled the community of 52 vulnerable children in Uganda who literally had nothing to become healthy, thoughtful, loving young adults who are leaders in their communities.

Today, 22 of those "children" have completed the program with post-secondary qualifications, and another 15 will finish by the end of 2019. The Niki alumni are working in fields ranging from welding to social work to mechanics to electrical installation to banking. One is about to complete his training as a flight attendant, another is becoming a multi-media producer, two plumbers, and another a community health officer. They have a deep commitment to giving back to their communities. All of them started with literally nothing, including no family support. They see the TriAdventure community as their Canadian family, and are profoundly grateful.

By the end of 2018, there will only be 8 of the Niki "kids" left in primary or secondary school -- the rest will be in vocational or post-secondary training. They are confident and joyful and full of hope This is all possible because of you.

What happens now?
All along, the intention was to regard this group as a "family," and to sunset the Nikibasika project when this family was grown up and launched. We are not there yet -- Alex will probably be the last child to graduate from university, in 2024 -- but we can foresee the next five or six years. We still very much need your support to provide the remaining young adults with the care they deserve -- and this year, we are going to try to do that fundraising in a different way.

Virtual TriAdventure 2018!!!
This year, we are not going to have a physical weekend for the TriAdventure, but are going to provide you with the opportunity to set a personal fitness or other goal for the summer, and to use that to raise funds for Nikibasika. You may set a goal of 100 hours of working out, riding 1000 km over the summer, running 500 km, swimming 3x a week, 20 yoga classes in 2 months, 1,000,000 steps -- whatever works for you. And if you have typically done poker nights, euchre nights, yard sales, music nights -- we need you to please do those again this year and will be happy to create a fundraising page for you. We will create a virtual tracker and provide Canada Helps pages and any other support you need, and will organize a couple of long bike rides over the summer for anyone who wants to join.
We have a fundraising goal of $80,000 for this virtual 2018 TriAdventure.

Final Hurrah! Mega TriAdventure in 2019
We plan on having one, final, huge celebratory TriAdventure, where we will try to raise the funds that will carry us over the finish line. Mark your calendars now for the third weekend in August 2019. Stay tuned for more information!

We are very excited about this opportunity for people to participate in the ways that work for them. And we are so grateful for your continued support -- together, we can ensure that every one of these kids is able to reach their potential.
