SHIFTER’s workshop offers charities, non-profits and faith-based organizations insight into how to incorporate the world’s fastest growing social media platform into your marketing toolkit. Participants learn SHIFTER’s own successful high-engagement Instagram strategy as well as practical steps on how to get started. Whether you are a novice, experienced social media manager, or organizational leader, this workshop has something for you.
We will start with some work on your Social Media Strategy. SHIFTER Magazine has grown our Instagram audience to 80,000 in just 6 months. We'll tell you how we did it, and how you can do the same.
Then you'll get out your device and get started! We'll guide you through creating an attractive bio which links to your organization's mission, vision, and values. Then we'll help you create strong, engaging content. By the time you leave the workshop, you should have a great-looking Instagram account with at least one strong post, and immediately-implementable strategies to grow your influence from day one.

Joe Mebrahtu is co-founder and business development director of SHIFTER Magazine. Prior to SHIFTER he spent eight years in fundraising and promotions in the arts and festivals sectors and with organizations like the Ottawa International Jazz Festival and the National Arts Centre. He also spent eight years as a community development and outreach pastor at a local church. Some say he could have a bright future as a standup comedian. Over the years he has gained valuable experience in marketing, community-building, community engagement and partnership development.
Kevin Bourne is co-founder and editor of SHIFTER Magazine. Prior to SHIFTER he worked as a communications and policy advisor on Parliament Hill. With five years of experience in television, film, and production and almost ten years of experience in writing and graphic design, Kevin is the “chief content creator and all around media guy” on the SHIFTER team. He’s also passionate about city-building, managing SHIFTER’s spinoff brand Future of Ottawa.
