Description

What is Voices of Hope?

Voices of Hope Social Justice Symposium is an annual event hosted by students of Corpus Christi College for students in grades 11 and 12, or enrolled in college and university programs, who are interested in social justice topics and leadership. Guided by the pillars of Catholic social teaching, this one-day event features a keynote presentation; outstanding student research; and opportunities for networking with young adults and professionals of not-for-profit organizations who share concern about the social, political, cultural, religious, and environmental challenges of the 21st century.

“Mercy at the Margins: Care For Everyone in our Common Home”

Symposium Theme

Mercy at the Margins: Care for Everyone in Our Common Home; drawing wisdom and guidance from Pope Francis’ encyclical letter Laudato Si, ‘Care for Everyone in our Common Home.’ In particular, this symposium calls to attention contemporary issues threating individuals at all corners of the earth, and encourages all of humanity to respond with this underlying message:

“What we are called to respect in each person is first of all his life, his physical integrity, his dignity and the rights deriving from that dignity, his reputation, his property, his ethnic and cultural identity, his ideas and his political choices.

We are therefore called to think, speak and write respectfully of the other, not only in his presence, but always and everywhere, avoiding unfair criticism or defamation.

Families, schools, religious teaching and all forms of media have a role to play in achieving this goal.”

Mercy at the Margins: Care for Everyone in Our Common Home student social justice symposium is an opportunity for emerging social, political, cultural, religious, and environmental leaders (grade 11, 12, college/university) to come together to learn, to inspire, and to be inspired about the truth that we are all responsible to care for our common home.
