How can we ensure diverse perspectives of Canada’s history are shared? What are the best ways to forge positive and collaborative relationships in order to support reconciliation and inclusion?

Join us for a province-wide workshop to explore the important role we all play in giving voice to diverse perspectives on history. As cultural and heritage sector professionals, we have an important opportunity to promote dialogue and develop mutual understanding, cooperation and peaceful relationships between people.

In the spirit of Canada's 150th anniversary themes of reconciliation, diversity and inclusion, the day will focus on issues and best practices for building relationships to support these themes within your institution. You will participate in small-group discussions, inspired by panel presentations. There will be ample opportunity for networking.

You will be asked in advance to share good practices, strategies, and challenges you may be facing in your attempts to support reconciliation and inclusion efforts within your community or institution. We will compile the information and bring it forward for discussion.

Workshop outcomes will include identifying key issues, guiding principles, good practices, opportunities for collaboration, and recommendations for resources to support future initiatives.

This workshop is open to any and all cultural heritage professionals interested in supporting diversity, inclusion and reconciliation efforts around our province. Click here to see a draft agenda.

There are two ways to be involved:

  • participate in-person at Royal Roads University in Victoria, B.C.; or
  • collaborate online from anywhere in the world.

Advance Registration Required

On-site participation:

  • $25 BCMA members & Heritage BC members
  • $20 BCMA Student & Volunteer members
  • $40 future members
  • $10 online participation

On-site participants will be provided with beverage breaks and lunch.

On-campus and online spots are limited so register early to avoid disappointment!

Workshop presented in partnership with Royal Roads University, the British Columbia Heritage Branch and Heritage BC.
