Event description

Description

Join us on November 28th for the Fall Edition of Volta Cohort Pitch Event!

You will hear from some of Atlantic Canada’s most innovative startups and see up to $125,000 in investment awarded LIVE that evening. Doors open at 5:15pm.

What is Volta Cohort?

Volta Cohort helps early stage, high calibre founders attract and secure venture capital sooner. This program provides investments of $25,000 to up to five companies per cohort through a fund co-founded by Volta, Innovacorp, BDC Capital, and Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) the investment arm of the Business Development Bank of Canada. Along with investment, Cohort companies are given space at Volta and access to a board of mentors comprised of CEOs and founders of Volta’s Resident and Alumni companies.

How are Companies Selected into the Volta Cohort Program?

Volta Cohort participants are selected through an application process that runs on an ongoing basis. Every six months, Volta hosts a pitch event to determine who is accepted into the program and only those chosen through the application process are eligible to participate.

15 high potential applicants will be invited to pitch their business at the Volta Cohort event - competing for $25,000 investment. Up to 5 companies to be awarded an investment at each event.

What Happens at the Volta Cohort Pitch Event?

The Volta Cohort events are structured similarly to DemoCamp where companies go on stage and pitch their company for five minutes. Companies also have the opportunity to set-up a display booth at the event to provide attendees with more information about what they are working on. These events are open to the public.

A selection committee will be established for each event and will be made up of 5 people from the larger startup ecosystem. This will include founders of venture path companies, investors, CEO’s of established companies, and members of the academic community. The selection committee will select the 5 companies to be awarded the investment at each event.

Selection criteria for Cohort Companies will be based upon the following:

· Ambition of idea

· Disruptive level of the technology

· Ability of the team to execute

· Impact that $25,000 will have on the company

Prior to company pitches, food and refreshments will be served during a networking reception attended by key players in the Atlantic Canada startup scene. It’s a can’t miss evening designed to celebrate and inspire innovation and entrepreneurship - we’d love to see you there!
