About the event…

You’re invited to Grace Toronto Church's first counselling skills workshop! "Walking with Others in Wisdom and Love" is a training designed to equip lay people with basic counselling skills to walk with one another as shepherds, mentors, and friends.

We know that although there is much need for the Church to be equipped to walk with one another in this “already-not-yet” period, this is not always a straightforward endeavour. The desire is there, but sometimes we can feel as though we lack the tools to truly speak into the lives of those with whom we walk.

This conference will be packed with biblically-based truths, insights, and practices to prepare us to care for and minister to one another in truth and in love. It is our hope that this conference will provide you with a rich gospel-centred introduction to how we can best care for one another as shepherds, mentors, and friends.

About the Sessions:

Biblical Foundations of Personal Ministry - Brian Munnings

How People Change - Ali Duyck

Change comes slowly and often with many starts and stops. Ali Duyck will unpack the circumstances necessary for people to feel ready to change, including the different stages of change.

Conflict in Relationships - Elizabeth James

Liz James will examine relationship breakdown and the ways in which this may be a problem of worship. She will provide advice on how we can encourage each other towards a right view of others and of God, leading ultimately to forgiveness and reconciliation.

Practical Methods to be used in Personal Ministry - Ali Duyck and Elizabeth James

Ali Duyck and Liz James will cover a variety of practical tools necessary for facing difficult situations including: active listening and effective question-asking, guiding others to challenge their unhealthy thoughts, providing information on the best way to respond to suicidal ideation, and how to help those with more severe forms of mental illness access care they need.
