Walnut Grove Toastmasters Weekly Meeting Public Speaking Training
Overview
Our weekly, in person meeting is a well-structured event. Guests are welcome to attend to check it out.
Meetings are at Walnut Grove Community Center
8889 Walnut Grove Drive, Langley, BC
Doors open at 7:00pm and the meeting starts at 7:15pm sharp.
A typical meeting consists of 2-4 prepared speeches by members. These speeches are based on projects in the Toastmasters Pathways Education system. They are typically 5-7 minutes each and are of a topic of the speaker's choosing.
After speeches there will be a short networking break and then each speech is evaluated by a different evaluator to give people tips on what they did well and what they can do to improve and become even better.
After the evaluations there is the "Table Topics" portion of the meeting which is impromptu speaking practice. A Table Topics Master will create questions which members take on and answer in a 1-2 minute speech without preparation. This is great practice for speaking off-the-cuff. Often guests are asked to participate in Table Topics.
After Table Topics, people performing roles during the meeting like time keeper and grammarian give their reports and because everything in Toastmasters is evaluated to help members improve their communication skills. The general evaluator evaluates how the meeting was run and any roles that had yet to be evaluated.
At the end of the meeting the Quizmaster steps up and leads us all in a fun quiz to see how well we were all listening and observing throughout. This gets quite boisterous and is such a wonderful way to end the night. The prize for the winner? The much coveted imaginary crown for the Quiz Lord or Quiz Queen
8:45 pm Meeting Closes on-time.
