Start your journey in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Winnipeg's premier MMA gym!
WAMMA provides a fun, safe, relaxed, and clean environment for you to learn the basics of BJJ. Whether you are looking to get in shape or try something new, a beginner class is the best way to start.
*There is NO minimum fitness level required*
You will learn the basics of Brazilian jiu-jitsu including:
- submissions
- escapes
- controlling positions
- sweeps
- takedowns
- movement drills
- submission defences
This program includes eight (8) 1.5-hour classes Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:00 PM with the final class on August 30th.
To participate you will be required to sign our Release of Liability Waiver at the first class. We will provide paper copies, but you can read the document here.

FAQs
Hygiene Considerations
Jiu-jitsu is a close contact sport. For the consideration of your training partners please:
- Clip finger and toe nails short.
- Wash all gear after every class.
- Shower after every class.
- Ensure you are maintaining a high level of personal hygiene before class.
Who should and should not participate?
- If you have unhealed injuries or pre-existing chronic conditions (e.g. slipped disk, tendonitis, dislocations, torn ligaments, etc.) or other health issues you should check with your doctor before signing up.
- If you are unsure about your suitability for participation, please consult your doctor.
- Jiu-jitsu is a sport with a high level of physical contact that can result in bruises, scrapes, and (rarely, but it happens) more severe injuries.
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to participate?
- The class is a 16+ event for size and safety reasons.
- Please contact the organisers if you are (or your child is) under 16 are interested in participating.
- A legal guardian must provide consent for those under 18.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the gym?
- Parking is available on surrounding streets.
- Multiple bus routes run in front of the gym.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
- Wear gym shorts and a shirt. Underarmour type materials are ideal, but not required.
- Wear a mouth guard.
- Remove all piercings, jewellery.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
- Only if you like. We will cross reference those who attend to those who sign up. Some form of ID is helpful.
What is the refund policy?
- There are no refunds after the first class.
- There is no transferring a purchase to another individual after the class starts.
- We will honour requests for refunds made 24 hours before the first class starts.
The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
