Introduction to Community Economic Development - Public Lecture

The public is invited to hear the introduction to the first course in our MBA curriculum, Business and Community Development I, on Friday January 24th, beginning 9:00am and ending at approximately 10:30am.

While this lecture introduces students to the first course in our MBA program, it is also an opportunity for community members at large to learn about our unique program and its approach to Community Economic Development.

About Dr. Zane Hamm:

Dr. Zane Hamm grew up on a farm near Herbert, Saskatchewan, and has maintained her roots in rural and urban community development. She has a PhD in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Alberta, with a specialization in Adult Education. She also holds an MEd in International /Global Education and has worked with community economic development, adult education and community engagement in Canada, and internationally. Zane has taught for more than a decade with the University of Alberta, and with CBU since 2011. Her community-based work includes non-profit and municipal leadership. She collaborated with the Centre for Public Involvement (CPI) on rural and urban public engagement projects, Designing Cities, and is a founding member of the City of Edmonton Council Initiative on Public Engagement.

Zane's research includes best and promising practices in community leadership and education for citizenship and democracy. Her interests and work include Community Economic Development, Community and Indigenous Relations, Educational Program Planning, Adult Education, Public Engagement, and Community Service-Learning (CSL). Her work focuses on broadening opportunities for citizens, across ages and experience, to build knowledge, skills and capacity to participate in civic life and sustainable economic development. Her current work explores economic security, non-profit organizing, public engagement, and governance.

About the MBA in Community Economic Development:
