Water Defenders: A Movie Screening & at Wet'suwet'en
The online seminar features a documentary directed by Mohawk member of Six Nations of the Grand River, Layla Black who explores the taking back of her Cultural Identity. Her grandfather is a Survivor of the Mohawk Industrial Residential School in Brantford, ON and learns about her inherent responsibility as a Water Defender.
The screening is followed up on her experiences at the Wet'suwet'en Territories in peacefully defying the CGL oil pipeline - and getting arrested and inhumanely treated for doing so.
Date & Time: Sunday, March 6, 2022 @ 7 pm Eastern
Registration: $10 / attendee (full proceeds go to sustain Wet'suwet'en Defenders in the region and in future Indigenous filmaking projects)
Presenters:
Korissa Davis is the daughter of a Land Defender who speaks on the generational trauma Indigenous youth face
Logan Staats is a multi-award-winning singer songwriter and Land Defender

Organized by: Indigenous & Muslim Education in partnership with Justice for All Canada

Please donate to support Wet'suwet'en land defenders. For years, Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs have been saying “no” to a 670-kilometre pipeline, being proposed to run through Indigenous lands. RCMP officers are forcefully removing Hereditary Chiefs, Wet’suwet’en land defenders, and supporters from their own land. For more information on the conflict, please click here.
