Introduction to Watercolour Painting - Michelle Marin

Interested in trying something new? Express yourself with watercolours! This weekend workshop will get you started with the foundation skills you will need to confidently dive into the world of watercolour painting. Experimenting with dry and wet techniques, mixing colours, how to flatten a buckled painting and even how to add embroidery to your paintings (Michelle’s specialty)!

Materials: Participants are required to source their own materials for the class.

  • Cold press watercolour pad - any size and any brand.Suggested: Canson XL Series Watercolor textured pad or Strathmore coldpress watercolor paper pad $7 - 10
  • Primary watercolour colours (red, yellow and blue) from a started palette or from watercolour paint tubes. Suggested: Daniel Smith Extra Fine Primary Watercolor Set (Perylene Red, Hansa Yellow Medium and French Ultramarine (all 15ml)
  • Watercolour or soft brushes (small and medium tip) $3 - 6/ea
  • Watercolour Paint Palette case (if you buy watercolour tubes)
  • Table salt $3
  • Cling Wrap Plastic $3
  • Paper Towels $2
  • Cotton fabric (old pillow case)
  • Iron
  • Large eye stitching needle with a pointy tip $5
  • Thread/Fine yarn $7

The Instructor: Michelle is originally from San Jose, Costa Rica and currently lives and works in Toronto, Canada. Michelle studied watercolour painting under Max Rojas, one of Costa Rica’s established watercolourists. Michelle holds a B. Des from OCAD University. Michelle is active in her community and has taught textile and painting based workshops and classes at Seneca College, elementary schools, not for profit organizations, and long-term care homes. Michelle has exhibited her work locally in Toronto and internationally both online and in San Jose, Costa Rica. Michelle holds a membership with Craft Ontario, Colour and Form Society and Artists Network.
