We are starting up meeting again every 1-2 weeks for the next few months.
These meetings will focus on hearing updates from the teams and organizing next steps. Anyone is welcome to attend but this meeting will focus on organizing our various activities. If you are still wondering how to get more involved feel free to come and participate.
One of our main areas of focus for the next few meetings will be on how to create focused clusters of support around groups of hosts and Ukrainian guests that are close together. We will be discussing what organizational framework we should create and the types of support our main group should offer. Are you interested in helping to coordinate driving, meal prep, advocacy, and social support... join us to discuss how we can build a greater sense of belonging.
GUEST SPEAKERS:
Clinton Rohr
1. The evolving story of finding and preparing the Woolwich Guest House For Ukrainian Refugees.
2. How to get a handle on the community energy/participation that has been generated by this venture and how to coordinate all this in a healthy community way. This includes a whole range of activities, community involvement and hospitality, prepping the house, property care, coordinating food needs, fundraising and the coordination of in-house needs of refugees housed there.
3. The critical need for partnerships who have experience and know-how of doing settlement and support of refugees.
Rihanat El-Alawa
The Cambridge Newcomer Outreach Program (CNOP) is an outreach model of newcomer settlement support in Cambridge, with programming based on newcomer-identified priorities at a local neighbourhood level, through group information and orientation sessions and needs assessments as well as referral services. This is a project funded by IRCC, in partnership with the City of Cambridge and Kinbridge Community Association. The outreach approach aims to reach youth and seniors who may not be connected to community supports and networks to draw them out and foster connections and belonging.
There may be an opportunity for break-out rooms.
