This 8 week introductory programming course for children aged 11+ teaches real coding techniques to program Arduino microcontrollers and a hardware circuit board to make cool things happen! The skills your child will learn are transferrable to any programming technology! And best of all, they will keep the circuit board and Arduino microcontroller to continue programming at home and developing projects of their own using the knowledge and skills they have learned!
Does your child enjoy playing with electronics? Are they curious about how computers work? Then come and join us eight Saturdays this Fall for a fun hour of learning to program Arduinos with a specially designed shield (fancy term for a circuit board) that teaches basic concepts of programming. Your child will see the effects of their programming on the hardware boards as they read various types of sensors (like light, touch and temperature), read the state of a button, turn on and off different LEDs and make lots of noise with buzzers.
We have fun projects each week and at the end, your child will get to make their own project/game with their circuit board (also called the Edu-Shield). Some of the projects include a traffic light simulator, morse code, and simple games.
There is no programming experience necessary. This is a hands-on learning environment - students will need to bring a laptop that is capable of running the Arduino programming environment (Windows, MAC or Linux). Tablets and the Microsoft Surface can't run the programming environment, and unfortunately Chromebooks do not reliably run the environment either, sorry!
Subsequent courses will build on, and expand, the knowledge from this course.

What do I need to bring to the event?
Each student must bring a laptop capable of running the Arduino programming language - Microsoft, MAC or Linux. Tables, Microsoft Surface, and Chromebooks will not work. Please remember to bring your power cable and a mouse. For each class, bring the circuilt board (Edu-Shield). It will be provided in the first class, unless you already have one - then bring it on the first day.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No, you don't have to. We will have a list of students for sign-in / sign-out.
What is the refund policy?
After the first class, if you feel the class is not right for you, you may cancel with a full refund (minus the hardware cost of the Edu-Shield if you want to keep it).
Can I stay during the class?
Parents are welcomed to stay during the class if they wish, but be warned...the buzzers can get loud!
I have other questions, who can I email?
Please email "firstname.lastname@example.org"
