About this event

We Really Like Her: OFFICE KILLER - 25th Anniversary Screening! image

This October, there’s nothing scarier than capitalism and fluorescent lighting as We Really Like Her! co-hosts Emily and Danita present 1997’s underrated slasher comedy Office Killer.

Directed by photographer Cindy Sherman and starring Carol Kane, Molly Ringwald, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Michael Imperioli, Office Killer follows copywriter Dorine (Kane), an introverted woman who struggles to fit in at work. When an after-hours accident claims the life of one of her colleagues, Dorine leans into her murderous impulses.

A pre-cursor to Office Space, Office Killer is as relevant as ever with its biting takedown of working for the man. Sherman uses her signature grotesque lens to craft a dark and satirical look at corporate America that will keep you working from home forever. - DANITA STEINBERG & EMILY GAGNE

As a special spooky treat before Office Killer, local Toronto filmmaker Lu Asfaha will screen her horror short Fresh Meat, a film festival favourite in 2022.

At first glance, media company Drop appears to be the bright cheery office environment young writer Nia was expecting, complete with staff birthday cakes and office pools. That is until Jamal, her coworker, goes mysteriously missing and Nia seems to be the only one concerned about his disappearance. Investigating further, she discovers Drop’s terrifying secret to success.
