Event description

Description

Join We Really Like Her! co-hosts Danita and Emily as they resurrect the conversation around Mary Lambert's gore-geous 1989 adaptation of Stephen King's Pet Sematary! Co-presented by The Faculty of Horror.

About the film

PET SEMATARY
USA | 1989 | 103 minutes | R
Directed by Mary Lambert
Written by Stephen King

Some things are better left buried. This is a lesson Louis Creed (Dale Midkiff) has to learn the hard way after he and his all-too-friendly neighbour Jud Crandall (Fred Gwynne) bury the family pet, Church, in a nearby pet cemetery (crudely labelled "sematary"). When the seemingly dead cat comes back (the very next day!), Louis is sent into an obsessive spiral as he struggles to protect his wife Rachel (Denise Crosby) and children (Miko Hughes and Blaze Berdahl) from fates worse than death.

A bold, brash take on the novel by Stephen King, Mary Lambert's PET SEMATARY puts an emphasis on the most harrowing aspects of grieving, mixing brilliant (and gross) practical effects with hazy, dream-like flashbacks. Although Lambert was rumoured to have been selected to direct the film because of her connection to the Ramones (who would pen an original song for the film), her shocking stylistic choices (echoing her work on Madonna's "Like a Prayer" video) are what truly make it worth resurrecting (again and again and again). - EMILY GAGNE & DANITA STEINBERG
