Web 3 is a catch all term brought on by the invention of the "blockchain". A shift that started with digital/cryptocurrencies, and has involved into smart contracts, NFTs (property rights, digital ID, IP ownership), decentralized hardware infrastructure (file storage, wireless), DeFi, Social Tokens, and new forms of governance such as DAO's.
