Event description

Description

From July thru September of 2019, the Justice Sector’s ISB took a service design approach to DevOps enablement. Our objective was to learn how we can better enable DevOps within the Justice Sector, and across BC Government, by gaining a deeper understanding of the unique challenges a DevOps Specialist and their many stakeholders face while working in the BC Public Service.

We conducted three workshops, and a dozen interviews with DevOps Specialists (vendor contractors), Ministry Information Security Officers (MISO), Mid-Tier specialists, Application / Solution Architects, Client Portfolio Managers, Product Owners, and others across the Information Services Branch. What we came up with was the Journey of Bjorn, a DevOps Specialist, which presented many lessons learned, new opportunities, processes and roles to improve the DevOps experience within the BC Public Service.

Who will benefit from attending?

Any role that is tied to software development in the Public Service. The Journey of Bjorn covers the legacy software conflict, and how both streams exist.

Need to know

If you know what DevOps is, great! The talk is an overview. Understand the basic concept of Service Design is helpful. If you know what a Site Reliability Engineer does, even better!

The DevOps Vs Site Reliability Engineer is an excellent 5-minute overview video of DevOps and Site Reliability.

As a Product Owner he works closely with Agile and DevOps teams developing system integration microservice architectures connecting internal and external systems in the Justice Sector.
