Learn about the employment standards that every worker should know from a BC labour lawyer.

About this event

In this workshop, our presenter will discuss the standard terms and conditions in employment agreements as well as review the relevant minimum B.C. Employment Standards that every worker should know. She will then explain what typically happens in a termination and how a worker can negotiate for a better severance package. She will also review how workers can enforce their rights if they believe that their rights are being violated.

Presenter:

Angela Wong is an in-house labour lawyer at the Hospital Employees’ Union. Previously, she worked as an employment lawyer and workplace investigator at a boutique employment law firm. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2015 and the British Columbia Bar in 2018. Angela holds a Juris Doctor in law from the University of Alberta and a Master’s in Asia Pacific Policy Studies from the University of British Columbia.

Kathy Leavens is a CFA Charter holder and completed a M.B.A. and B.Sc. at UBC. She has over 30 years of experience in the investment industry. In 2014, she retired and is now involved in a number of volunteer projects related to the betterment of women and children in our community.
