Event Details

Dear webinar participants,
We are thrilled that you'll be joining us for How can social media support public health to exchange knowledge, and take action on the social determinants of health? ( )

It’s sure to be a great discussion on social media, the social determinants of health, health equity and public health practice.

We’re looking at this webinar as an opportunity to explore some emerging “promising practices”, learn from each other, and connect with other public health colleagues grappling with using “#socialmedia” for “#sdoh” work!

To make sure you can connect to the event, please read the following instructions and requests:

1)    Connect to the webinar.

We want to make sure you can hear, see, and participate (connect to teleconference and the Elluminate platform).

Please note, the teleconference information has changed from what was originally posted on the eventbrite registration page. To join the teleconference with the new number...

  • Follow the instructions you will be sent by “Pragmatic” (because you signed up on eventbrite, you'll receive an email from Pragmatic shortly). You will receive a new teleconference number along with your own unique pin number that you can use to login to the call. This pin number is connected to your email, and identifies you! Most importantly, it allows us to unmute your line if you would like to ask a question.
  • To see the webinar slides and participate in interactive quesions, visit this link
    ( )

  • Also, Elluminate is a Java based program, so your computer may need to be updated. We will be on the teleconference line 15 minutes before the webinar begins. For questions, please contact Pemma Muzumdar at

2)    Get the most out of the webinar

Social media is a participation sport and we want to use it to help model what we'll be talking about and to ground our time together in the real problems, experiences, and practices that all of you are engaged in. There is no theoretical sharing; it's like Yoda said: "Do or do not. There is no try"

So, here’s what you can do to make sure you get the most out of the webinar:
A.    Read the blog we wrote to kickstart the conversation – this will set you up well for the webinar ( )
B.    Join the online conversation happening right now on Health Equity Clicks ( ). If you’re not already a member, please make yourself an account – it’s free, and should be relatively painless. The webinar will draw on this online conversation – so you don’t want to miss it.
C.    Assuming you have one - if you are taking this webinar you probably do - share your Twitter handle with others interested in this topic (for example, I am @Ask_Pemma and Cameron is @cdnorman). You can do this by sending a tweet using the hashtag #sm4equity – feel free to include a question or comment related to this topic. We will continue to watch the stream of tweets that contain that hashtag!

We will be joining these conversations and drawing from them in our presentation and discussion next week. If you have an example or case study to share on November 12, we'd love to include it. This could be a chance for you to draw on the wisdom of more than one hundred practitioners like you from across the country in soliciting ideas and feedback. If you do want us to call on you to share a social media practice story or discuss a current problem during the webinar, please contact Pemma Muzumdar at or 902-870-9424.

We’re really looking forward to connecting with you in the online conversation, the twitterverse, and finally, the webinar on November 12 at 2pm EST!

Until then,

Pemma Muzumdar and Cameron Norman
