Come and be mentored by one of our experienced STEM entrepreneurs at the Hunter Hub's inaugural WELab mentorship workshop!

About this Event

The Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking’s WELab program is the first of its kind in the university’s history and will serve all female-identifying students, staff, and faculty interested in receiving entrepreneurial mentorship and training.

On Wednesday, October 30th, the first WELab mentorship workshop will be hosted. An experienced STEM entrepreneur will be teaches mentees invaluable skills relating to their career. Our mentor will also be there to answer any questions or provide guidance to workshop attendees.

Do not miss the opportunity to build relationship and connections in and outside the University campus to support your entrepreneurial and professional goals.

At the beginning of the event, we will be hosting a VIP announcement event to share what WELab's program has to offer with our community and industry partners and government representatives.

After the VIP announcement event, we will be hosting the University of Calgary's first WELab mentorship workshop.

If you are interested in attending the announcement and mentorship, please register to both events to ensure we have sufficient catering.

  • (Pre- workshop event) 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM - WELab Announcement Event (To register, please visit here. It is not required to attend the announcement event to participate in the mentorship workshop. Workshop participants are for UCalgary female-identifying students, staff and faculty only.)
  • 12:45 PM - 1:00 PM - Registration and networking
  • 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM- Mentorship workshop (lunch provided)
  • 1:45 PM - 2:15 PM - Q + A and networking
  • Optional networking will be available after the workshop

Mentor - Dr. Gina Cherkowski - Founder of STEM Learning Lab and Chief Innovation Officer and Co-Founder of EdgeMakers

Gina is an award-winning innovative disruptor, social entrepreneur, community builder and founder in STEAM.

Dr. Gina Cherkowski is Founder of STEM Learning Lab and Chief Innovation Officer and Co-Founder of EdgeMakers. EdgeMakers is an innovative education company that empowers teachers and youth with the skills, tools and mindsets they need to solve the world’s most pressing problems. When Gina isn't designing and innovating with her team at EdgeMakers, you’ll find her working on her newest passion project, STEAM360 Canada Foundation, a non-profit that helps underserved children get access to high-quality STEM, STEAM and Maker learning experiences.

Dr. Gina Cherkowski is a disruptive innovator and educational change-maker. She holds a double cognate PhD in Mathematics Education and Culture Studies and has extensive experience in teaching and learning as a math remediation specialist, a classroom teacher, and as a university professor. Dr. Cherkowski is a leader in her field and a mentor to women in STEM. Dr. Cherkowski equips future teachers with the skills, tools, and mindsets necessary to be innovative, forward-thinking educators that cultivate the creative, curious, and productive problem solvers and innovators of tomorrow.

Gina was awarded 2018’s Alberta Women Entrepreneur Emerging Innovator award and has recently been nominated for the Canadian Business Chicks’ Woman of Inspiration award. She was also a 2017 participant for the RBC’s Social Enterprise Accelerator program.

We will be providing lunch and beverages.

This event is FREE but registration is required due to high demand.

All female-identifying students at all levels and across all faculties that are interested in entrepreneurship in STEM are welcome.

Female-identifying staff and faculty members that are interested in entrepreneurship in STEM are welcome as well.
