The 30th Anniversary
We welcome you to WestCAST 2017! WestCAST (Western Canadian Association for Student Teaching) is an education conference held annually by the Faculties of Education in the Western Provinces of Canada. Now in its 30th year, the Faculty of Education at Vancouver Island University will be the conference host on Feb. 16 & 17, 2017. Our conference will bring together over 400 Education Faculty and Teacher Education Students for two days of conversation and engagement on topics that are relevant in today’s world of teaching. Our Theme for WestCast 2017 is:
Engaging Conversations in Sustainability, Creativity, and Technology in Education.
The Call for Proposals is now OPEN: Click HERE for proposal guidelines and form.
- Call for Proposals: October 3 – November 4, 2016
- Registration Opens: October 3, 2016.
- Early Bird Registration Ends: December 16, 2016.
Our conference will take place at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, conveniently located in the heart of beautiful downtown Nanaimo.
We are now inviting paper and workshop proposals from Student Teachers, Education Faculty and School Sponsors on the Conference themes. Delegates are encouraged to think of Sustainability in the broad terms of ecological integrity, social and economic justice and Aboriginal ways of knowing, Creativity could embrace the arts, critical thinking and problem solving, and Technology (as we understand it) with all of the associated resources, challenges and potential. We view these themes as being interconnected and encourage delegates to think about ways in which Sustainability, Creativity, and Technology support each other.
